-
- B) Uninstalling a Previous Version of NetObjects Fusion
- =======================================================
-
- For Windows 95 and NT 4.0 Users: To uninstall NetObjects Fusion,
- launch Add/Remove Programs from your Control Panel and select
- NetObjects Fusion 1.0 or 2.0. The Uninstaller will not delete any site
- files (.nod) you have created assuming these .nods are in /User Sites.
-
- For NT 3.51 Users: Click on the Uninstall Icon in the NetObjects Fusion
- program group. The Uninstaller will not delete any site files (.nod)
- you have created assuming these .nods are in /User Sites.
-
- During Uninstallation, if you encounter a message asking to confirm the
- removal of any .dll or system files, we recommend that you choose Yes.
-
- NOTE: If you have made custom styles and wish to reuse them, please
- make a back up of them. If you do not, they will be deleted during
- the uninstall process.
-
-
- C) Installing NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1
- =====================================
-
- There are several ways to install 2.0.1.
-
- Please choose the scenario that is most appropriate for you:
-
- * I already own the shipping version of NetObjects Fusion 2.0:
-
- Just install the 2.0.1 updater patch. After you double click on the
- .exe, the installer's title bar will ask you to locate the NetObjects
- Fusion 2.0 executable. Once you navigate to Fusion.exe, select it,
- click Open and follow the remaining on screen instructions.
-
- After the patch has been installed, your Desktop shortcut icon and
- Start Menu item will NOT be renamed. They will still say "NetObjects
- Fusion 2.0." However, when launched, the splash screen and about box
- will correctly identify the 2.0.1 version.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
- * I already have a trial version of NetObjects Fusion 2.0 installed
- and it has not yet timed out:
-
- Just install the 2.0.1 updater patch.
-
- After the patch has been installed, the counter that keeps track of
- how many days are left on your trial will not be affected.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
- * I already own the shipping version of NetObjects Fusion 1.0:
-
- You can run both NetObjects Fusion 1.0 and NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1 on
- the same machine. 2.0.1 can be installed in a different folder.
- However, since 2.0.1 has over 100 new features and enhancements, we
- recommend that you uninstall 1.0 prior to installing 2.0.1. This will
- free up disk space and will keep your 1.0 User Sites folder intact.
-
- NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1 is designed to be compatible with any .nod files
- you created with a previous release of NetObjects Fusion. When you
- first open a file created with NetObjects Fusion 1.0, the program will offer
- you the choice to upgrade the file from a copy of the original file before
- proceeding. We recommend that you do so. If you choose "Yes", NetObjects
- Fusion 2.0.1 will automatically make a copy of your 1.0 file and open the
- copy (in the 2.0 format).
-
- Once the files have been opened in NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1 they are *NOT*
- backward compatible and cannot be used with NetObjects Fusion 1.0 for Windows
- or Macintosh.
-
- NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1 is shipping with a new set of SiteStyles. If you
- want to continue using .nod files which use 1.0 SiteStyles, choose to copy all
- 1.0 styles during the installation of NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1. Then, in .nod
- files that use 1.0 SiteStyles, select Edit | Update Styles List from Style view.
-
- If you didn't choose to copy 1.0 styles during installation, you can still
- import a style into your upgraded .nod files. Open the upgraded .nod file and go
- to Style view. Select File | Import Style, and then find and open the style's
- .ssf file (inside its Style folder.) The Style will be imported into the
- current .nod file.
-
- If you didn't copy 1.0 styles during installation, and you wish to import all
- of your 1.0 styles into a .nod file, first manually copy all their style folders
- from the NetObjects Fusion 1.0 Styles folder to the NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1
- Styles folder. Then, in Style view, select Edit | Update Styles List.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
- * I already have a trial version of NetObjects Fusion 1.0 installed and
- it has timed out:
-
- Same procedure as the shipping version of 1.0 (above).
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
- * I have never installed NetObjects Fusion on my PC before:
-
- If you have downloaded NetObjects Fusion from the Web, double click on
- the exe file. If you downloaded the segmented version of this exe, make
- sure you have all the segments and then double click on the FIRST exe.
- Launching the .exe will unzip NetObjects Fusion. Then you will be
- presented a dialog box. Click the Setup button and follow the on-screen
- instructions.
-
- If you have a NetObjects Fusion CD-ROM, insert it in your CD-ROM drive.
- >From the File Manager or Windows Explorer, double-click on
- the CD-ROM icon. Then double-click on the file named setup.exe.
-
- Please follow the on screen installation directions. The necessary
- files will be installed by default in C:\NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1\.
-
-
- D) Migrating site files from NetObjects Fusion 1.0
- ==================================================
-
- This version of NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1 is designed to be compatible
- with any .nod files you created with a previous release of NetObjects
- Fusion. The 2.0.1 version is automatically forward compatible with 2.0
- .nod and .nft (template) files.
-
- It is also compatible with 1.0 files, but requires a bit more effort.
- When you open a .nod created with NetObjects Fusion 1.0, NetObjects Fusion
- 2.0.1 will offer you the choice to upgrade the file from a copy of the
- original file before proceeding. We recommend that you do so. If you choose
- "Yes", NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1 will prompt you to choose a filename for the
- copy. We recommend selecting a descriptive filename (such as
- sitename_copy.nod), and leaving the copy in the original .nod file's
- folder. NetObjects Fusion will then open the copy (in 2.0 format).
-
- To guarantee the re-usability of your 1.0 .nod files, we HIGHLY recommend
- that you follow these additional steps:
-
- 1) Make a copy of your .nod in NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1
- a) Open NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1.
- b) Select File | Open Site, find and select your 1.0 .nod file, and click
- Open. A warning dialog appears asking if you would like to open a copy
- instead.
- c) Click Yes.
- d) Enter a descriptive name for the .nod copy, and save it in the same
- directory as the original .nod. Your .nod file opens in NetObjects Fusion
- 2.0.1.
-
- 2) Import the copy of your .nod into a new 2.0.1 site.
- a) Select File | New Site, enter a descriptive name for your new upgraded
- site, and click OK.
- b) In Site view, select File | Import Section, click "Other," and open
- your .nod copy. (Choose "NetObjects Fusion Files (*.nod)" in the
- Files of Type dropdown menu.)
- c) In the Import Section dialog, click OK and wait until the site is
- imported.
-
- Your site is now in NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1, but has two home pages, and
- has the Plain SiteStyle.
-
- 3) Remove the extra home page from your new upgraded site.
- a) Click on the second home page from the top, and go to Page view.
- b) In the Layout tab of the Properties palette, note the name of the current
- MasterBorder.
- c) Click on the layout area, select Edit | Select All, and then select Edit |
- Copy to copy all the contents.
- d) Go the top Home page in Page view, click in the upper left of the Layout
- and select Edit | Paste.
- e) In the Layout tab of the Properties palette, select the same
- MasterBorder that was applied to the second Home page.
- f) In Site view, move all the pages on the third level to the right of the
- second Home page.
- g) Once the second Home page has no children, click on it and press "Delete."
-
- 4) Apply the original style to the site.
- a) In Style view, if the style appears blank in the Style Gallery, select
- File | Import Style, find and open the style's .ssf file, and it will be
- imported into the current file.
- b) Click on the style you imported and click "Set Style."
-
- Once 1.0 sites have been opened in NetObjects Fusion 2.01 they are *NOT*
- backward compatible and cannot be used with NetObjects Fusion 1.0 for Windows
- or Macintosh. They can however can be shared with 2.0 Windows and
- Macintosh users.
-
- NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1 is shipping with a new set of SiteStyles. If you
- want to continue using .nod files which use 1.0 SiteStyles, choose to copy all
- 1.0 styles during the installation of NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1.
-
-
- E) Putting certain JavaScripts in your layouts
- ==============================================
- The JavaScript functions document.write() and document.writeln() will not
- work in Netscape browsers when NetObjects Fusion generates your pages with
- a nested table structure. Whether you optimize your table structure for
- columns or rows, NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1 will generate all pages with a
- nested table structure by default. To disable nested table structure
- generation, simply add a special comment to your Layout or MasterBorder
- script before your JavaScript. This comment is available in a text file
- called Comment.txt, located in /NetObjects System.
-
- To ensure that JavaScript functions such as document.write() and
- document.writeln() will work inside NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1 tables,
- please follow this procedure:
-
- 1. Right-click on the MasterBorder or Layout
- 2. Choose Master Script or Layout Script from the pop-up menu
- 3. Click in the BEGINNING OF BODY field in the Script dialog box
- 4. Click the Insert button at the top of the dialog box
- 5. Select Comment.txt from the /NetObjects System folder
- 6. Click OK (Alternatively, you may simply type <!--NOSMARTTABLES-->
- to accomplish steps 4-6)
- 7. Add your document.write() or other text-based JavaScript function
- anywhere on the page after this comment
- 8. Click OK
-
-
- F) Acadia Infuse

- award-winning Infuse JavaScript and LiveWire script editor from Acadia Software.

- Fusion web site. Acadia Infuse enables you to rapidly create JavaScript scripts
- and develop LiveWire applications within a visual, drag-and-drop editing
- environment. To install Infuse, insert the NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1 CD-ROM and
- go to the /Acadia Infuse folder. Then, double click on setup.exe. Learn more
- about Acadia Infuse from www.acadians.com.
-
-
- G) Usage Suggestions
- ====================
-
- *) NetObjects Fusion 2.0.1, is not optimized for very large Web sites. If your
- site is more than 250 pages, we recommend that you divide it into multiple sites
- of less than 250 pages. You can then connect them by using External Links.
-
- *) Some JavaScript functions may need to be moved from the body of the document
- into the head (either the Inside Head Tag field or the Beginning of Body field
- of the Layout Script dialog box). There is a bug in Netscape Navigator where
- certain JavaScript functions defined in nested tables get ignored. Since we are
- now using nested tables, some functions might not work when they are defined
- inside the body. Refer to section E above for more information.
-
- *) After importing a site, some of the pages may have some overlapping elements.
- You can try to adjust the proportional and/or monospace font size in the
- Preferences dialog to match the original settings that were used when designing
- the site. To find these overlaps quickly, select Page | Select Overlapping
- Elements in Page View.
-
- *) After choosing Auto-resize Margins in the Page tab of the Preferences dialog,
- your MasterBorders will resize as you move objects against the borders of the
- Layout. You can also click on layout borders and drag them to resize.
-
- *) When importing a local site, make sure to fill out the domain name field.
- This will ensure that pages and links in the imported pages are correctly handled
- as internal objects.
-
- *) External HTML pages will be published into a folder called "MY_HTML." Be
- sure that all of your links and assets refer to the correct folder upon
- publishing. NetObjects Fusion will not automatically move the assets.
-
- *) Several Components (e.g., Time-based Picture, Rotating Picture, Dynabuttons)
- rely on javascripts. When previewed or staged locally and then viewed in MSIE
- 3.02, you will be unable to see them due to security issues with local .class
- files. You will be able to see them in MSIE 3.02 if you publish REMOTELY. If you
- use MSIE 3.01, these components will preview (or locally stage) correctly.
-
- *) When inserting transparent GIFs, be sure that the colors of the foreground
- image AND the transparent color are from the 216 Color Safety Palette. This
- palette is available from the Netscape Web site.
-
- *) The Save Site As command in the Site View's file menu makes a backup of your
- NOD file. This command requires that you save as a different nod file name to
- the SAME site folder as your original nod. Once you do a save as, and you wish
- to work on the nod you just saved, you will need to close your original nod and
- open the new nod. If you save as to a different location, then all asset pathing
- information will be lost. If you wish to save to a different location, we highly
- recommend that you use the Export Template command from the Site View's file menu.
-
- *) If you add custom words to the spell checker dictionary, you'll need to
- change the path for the dictionary file (.dic). To do this invoke the spell
- checker and click the Options... button. Change the path of the Personal
- Dictionary File to the actual path of Fusion.exe. Depending on how you
- installed 2.0.1, this may or may not be required.
-
